1st Responders Pager System – If you are unfamiliar with the process, please review the 1st Responder Page to the right of this post under Current Information.  It tells you how to make a call to 1st Responders and gives other vital information that you should know if you stay at Winter Ranch.  PLEASE DO NOT call 1st Responders and speak into the phone.  This is automated pager system.  You must dial in the location where you are – either your Lot No. or the building number that you are in.  These numbers are posted in each building.  No one can respond to your call without you entering location that you are at.

Senior Olympics:  Marcia Fabricius asked that anyone who participated in the Senior Olympics come to the next Wednesday morning meeting and wear their shirts and if you won a medal, please wear that also.  We’d like it if everyone who participated come to the meeting so that we can see what types of activities Winter Ranch participated in and how many medals we won.  We would also like some group pictures for the blog!

Ladies Luncheon:  Marsha Bender announced this morning that due to some miscommunications the Ladies Luncheon Group needs a Chair and Co-Chair for next season.  If a couple of people do not step up to the plate, we will not have the Ladies Luncheons next season and we’d hate to see that happen!  Please see Marsha Bender at Lot No. 592.

Scams:  Patty reported that there are a couple of scams that are going around the park.  We had fake roofers come in and others coming in stating that our windows needed to be replaced.  If anyone comes to your door trying to sell you something or fix something, please notify the office right away.  We had some people lose some money last week.  We do not allow sales people to go door to door in the park.  If you haven’t contacted them, they shouldn’t be knocking at your door!

Activity Coordinators:  It is now time to fill out your Activities Scheduling sheet requesting dates for your events for next season.  These sheets are outside the Activities Office (they're hot pink this year)All potlucks on Sunday next year will be from Noon to 2 PM.  When filling out your requests, give first and second choice of dates, time of day, the date you filled out the form, type of activity and a contact person with telephone and/or e-mail address.

Pictorial Directory:  The Activities Office has a stack of pictures for people that didn’t place an order but are entitled to a free picture.  Stop in and pick yours up.  Please stop in to pick them up any time the office is open except Mondays or Wednesdays when the Activities Office is just swamped with other things going on.

Non-pictorial Directories are now on sale for $2 each after the Wednesday morning meetings.  You can also purchase them during the week in the Business Office.  We have found some errors and there is a Error Sheet included in the directory.

Before you leave for the season:

      1)   Make sure you have mail forwarding labels for the Mail Room.   You can bring us your own or you can let the Business Office know that you need some labels.  The Computer Group will do them for you for a slight fee (30 labels for A$3).

      2) Make sure you put away all the stuff at your site.  Don’t leave anything out that could blow away in high winds or float away in heavy rains.  Remember we do experience hurricane winds during the time that you are away.  Even if you think something is too heavy to have to be put away, put it away!!

      3)  If you have staples that you don’t want to take home with you, you can donate them to ARISE.  Please make sure the food hasn’t expired yet.  Canned goods and other food staples (non-refrigerated items) can be dropped off in the box in the Small Hall by the back door to the Business Office.

Christmas Stockings for the 2014/15 Season:  When you are seeing sales on items that could be used for the Christmas stockings next year, we thought you would like to know what we have left over from this year that we will use next year.  For example, we have 343 stockings so we probably won't need to buy any more of those next year!  The following are what is on hand:

    Stockings: 343
    Shampoo:   12
    Conditioner:  0
    Soap:  24
    Lotion: 13
    Stuffed Animals: 15
    Small Toys: 77
    Sticker Books:  1
    Girl's Brushes:  8
    Girl's Socks: 12

 GOLF COURSE:

      1)   You MUST wear a badge while you are on the golf course.  If you do not, you may be asked to leave the course.  We believe we are starting to have people from outside the park use the course and the only way to know for sure is to enforce this rule which has been in place for years.

      2)   If you are going to use the handicapped path at the Golf Course, you need to stop in the Activities Office and obtain a blue flag for your golf cart.

      3)  If there is any trouble on the Golf Course, call Larry or Cathy Chapin.

      4)  Juan will be mowing grass at any time on the golf course.  He must continue mowing    even during golf scrambles as he only has three days to get the mowing done.  He will pullover and try to get out of your way but do not ask him to quit mowing.

      5) Larry and the new Manager from Trophy who has some experience in managing golf courses will be implementing some changes next season.

Thank Yous:

Lynn thanked all the Coordinators and Chairs of different activities at Winter Ranch.  There are more than 80 of them.  She said to check out who these people are, see the Contact List or Who is Who on the right hand side of this page under Current Info.  She had all the volunteers who have served in any capacity this season to stand up and it looked like half the room stood up.  There are a lot of activities and functions at our park and it takes an army to keep them all going.  Lynn said “without the volunteers, this park would not be the park that it is.”

Lynn also thanked all the people who brought JD food during January and February when Lynn didn’t have time to cook.  She said without them, JD would have been eating peanut butter on raisin bread most of the time!

Carol Earley thanked everyone that attended the Gospel Show on Sunday, the 9th of March.  The canned food donations went to the Food Pantry at ARISE.

JD thanked Donna and Dave Lewis for all their work in the kitchen this season.  She does an absolutely great job and he is going to miss her next season.  JD is looking for several sets of people to fill in for Donna and her crews.  He has some but would love to here from anyone else who is interested in helping out.

General News:

Crochet Group:  There is a yellow canister in the Business Office where you can donate change toward the purchase or yarn for the Crochet Group.

Ladies, if you find a really good sale on yarn, go ahead and purchase the yarn and bring it with you next season.  The Crochet Group will reimburse you for the purchase.

  • Special Olympics:  The Crochet Group are making scarves for the Special Olympics.    They needed 2700 of them.  This past season we managed to make more than 80 red and black scarves in just two weeks.   This coming year they want the scarves to be  6” x 54” long and in  blue and green stripes.   They’ve made 90 for next year already but will be making more.

  • Veterans’ Operation Gratitude:  The Crochet Group are also making scarves for the military.  They want scarves that are 5” x 48” long in subtle colors.  You can used red, white and blue colors but they don’t want the three color together.
Annual Winter Ranch vs Trophy Gardens Golf Tournament was being held during the meeting this morning.  The entry fee was $2 each and the money was donated to the Good Samaritan Project.

Calendar Updates:

St Patrick’s Day Parade:

Trophy Gardens and Winter Ranch will again have the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.  Winter Ranch people can line up at Lot 658 at 3:20 and we’ll go as a group over to Trophy.  This parade will be bigger than last year.  It will arrive in Winter Ranch about 4 to 4:15 PM and be going down Wrangler and Bunkhouse.  Winter Ranch parade people have been invited to the Corned Beef and Cabbage celebration at Trophy Gardens.  Bring a covered dish and a chair.   The biker elephants were specifically requested to be in the parade.  They were really cute!

Karaoke will be going on through the month of March.

There is a Roundup this week and JD says we’ll feed you – not sure what yet!  Lynn Dvorak will be the entertainment. He does country/variety music and is a featured performer at the Don-Wes Flea Market.

Dairy Queen BingoBingo is again being held on Monday nights at 6 PM at the Alamo Dairy Queen.  Next season the DQ in Alamo would like to change the time from 2 to 3 PM on Mondays.   We still need a caller from the park!

The last jam of the season will be this Saturday.  Let’s all get out and thank Jody and Dave Nunn for their past service and give them a great sendoff.

Kitchen Coordination Meeting:  On March 20th at 10 AM, JD would like to meet with all the new people who have volunteered to work in the kitchen for the jams, etc.  He still needs a few more kitchen volunteers!

Tours:

Gail Field, our Tour Director from
Trophy Gardens, has put up a trip to New Orleans on February 22nd (next season).  If you want a brochure on this, please sign up for that.  It will not mean you have decided to go just that you want more information on it.

Volunteers or Donations Needed:

Dance this Friday:   We still need 50/50 people and kitchen help.

Kitchen Cleanup:  Next Wednesday JD needs volunteers to help clean up the kitchen    and  get things put away for next season.  If you’ve used the kitchen any time this season, please come and help.  See JD for times.

Lynn is looking for a caller for Dairy Queen Bingo for next season.  Next season the DQ would like to change the time to Mondays from 2 to 3 PM.  If we get a caller, we’ll get it going again!

JD needs a caller for Bingo on Saturday night for next season.  He may need kitchen help for that also.  If we don’t get a caller, we won’t have Saturday night Bingo.

Needed Cooks  - Donna Lewis is retiring from the kitchen.  JD is looking for a few people to take over her duties.  He would like several people who could cook for  the jam once a month rather than having the same person every week.  You can make what you like – bring you grandmother’s recipes in.

Used Furniture, beds, bedding, appliances, dishes, bicycles, household and kitchen items are needed by unfortunate people in the community.  If you are getting rid of something, check with Dale Loerch.  He will most likely find a home for any of your unwanted items.  Dale reported today that he delivered at least 20 couches, recliners and beds to the ARISE area and he said they were really needed!

Campbell’s Soup Labels and Cereal Box Tops for Education are needed for Children’s Haven.  Jeanne Helmer is collecting them.  You can take them to the Activity Office.
