Welcome to our New Residents

Dennis and Kay White
From Iowa

From Fargo, North Dakota

The Craft Sale had a great turnout yesterday.  Here's a couple of pictures from that event.

Pets and Doggie Row:  Cathy has had complaints again about pet owners not cleaning up after the pets.  She said she REALLY does not want to be the “poop police.”  She would like you to act like someone is watching you all the time.  Then we wouldn’t have a problem.  If you are out with your dog at midnight, clean up after the dog because someone can step in it in the morning.  Also, do not dump the doggie poo in the containers without a baggie.  It’s just nasty getting it out of there!  Just be the polite people we know you can be!

Speed in the Park:  Slow down to 10 MPH no matter what type of vehicle you are driving:  Bikes, Cars,  Trucks, Golf Carts, Skates….Whatever.  Just take the speed down and stop for the stop signs.  We have a lot of people in the park and we do not want anyone getting hurt.

E-Cigarettes or vapor Cigarettes are not allowed in any of the Winter Ranch Buildings.

Please do not park your golf carts on the ramps into the halls.  These ramps are for the handicapped.

Missing items from the kitchen:  We are missing caraffs, utensils, bowls and pitchers.  Please bring them back as we really need them.

Activitiy Rooms:  January and February are REALLY busy times for these rooms.  Please pay attention to what is happening in these rooms before you barge in on an activity or have to be asked to vacate the room.  You can always check in the Activities Office to see if the room is going to be open.  And, if you haven’t purchased a ticket for the entertainment that is going on in the hall, then you can’t be in the hall doing any other activity.  The whole hall is used for any entertainment or dance.

The Mixer Board for the Sound System isn’t working and we are getting repair estimates now.  You may see cords dangling across the floor so be careful walking around in Friendship Hall until we get it fixed or replaced.   A group of individuals have graciously agreed to do a fundraiser for the Sound System.  It will be on February 13th at 4 PM.  It will be a spaghetti dinner.  More information to follow.

For the Summer Folks:  Karl Sodaberg passed away and his service will be on January 25th at 2 PM at Trophy Gardens.

Exercise Room Television:  If the TV isn’t working like you think it should, don’t mess with it.  Go to the Activity Office and get JD to help you.  Sometimes it is difficult getting all the dials back where they ought to be when someone tampers with it.  Also, let JD know if one of the exercise machines isn’t working properly.

Watch your Calendars, The Winter Ranch Activities Blog or The Winter Ranch Facebook Page.  There are over 60 activities going on in the park during January and February.  If you aren’t a computer person, we try to post what is happening on the boards in the two halls.  We try to keep you informed but you have to do your part.

Rita Huether from the 1st Responders talked today about Valley Care Clinics.  They  now has their mobile medical unit available.  To see information on this, view the 1st Responders page to the right of this post.  Her entire text is on the 1st Responder page.  This page is full of good information for you.  The newest additions are in red.  Just scroll down to read the text.

Decorate the Large Hall for Valentine’s Day:  Nora Minor could use some volunteers to help decorate for Valentine’s Day.  Meet her in the Large Hall on Monday, January 19th at 8:30 AM.  Nora wouldn’t mind hearing from you ahead of time if you can help out.  She is on Lot 567.

Dairy Queen Bingo:  The game has resumed at the Dairy Queen in Alamo.  It is Mondays at 6 PM.  Just note that there will not be Bingo on January 19th.  Otherwise, come on and play!

Ladies:  The Ladies Luncheon Committee would like to raise some money for luncheon expenses.  They would appreciate your help at a Bake Sale at the Garage Sale on Friday, January 23rd.  Please bake and deliver it to Large Hall, Stage side by 8 AM.

Texas Holdem is on Fridays at 1 PM in the Large Hall.

Yoga is going on in the loft area even though Pam Hoppe has not arrived here in the park yet.

A Fusible Stained Glass Class is scheduled for January 20th at 6:30 PM.  Sign up sheets are in the Stained Glass Shop.  The size of the class is limited.

Sew4Fun has classes scheduled.  There is limited seating so sign up in the Arts & Crafts Room as soon as possible.  There is also a standby sheet.  If enough people sign it, another of the same class will be scheduled.  Please be sure to have your prep work done before you arrive at the class.  They cannot delay the class waiting for you to get that done during class time.

Choir Concert – Mark your calendars for March 1st at 6 PM in the Large Hall.

Lynn is starting to put together the Activities Calendar for the 2015-2016 so please obtain a Green Activity Sheet to get your activity on the calendar for next year.  If the office is closed just put the sheet into the door slot.

The Amber Waves Band will be performing here on January 15th at 7 PM.  Tickets are $6.  This band takes audiences on a delightful tour of modern and historical folk sounds.  The Amber Waves Band features the Costello family and brings an exciting mix of acoustic music, including the sounds of Celtic, Old English, Colonial American, Bluegrass, and Gospel, as well as their own original music.  You can purchase tickets in the Activity Office or buy tickets at the door.

On January 21st and 22nd, there will be Beginning Card (cribbage, euchre, pinochle, 500, and pitch)  and Maj Jong Lessons classes in the Large Hall from 1 to 3 PM.  Bridge is not included in the card games as you can learn bridge on Thursdays at 1 PM.  Donna Ironsides needs to know if you are interested in learning or teaching the games.  There are signup sheets for classes and instructors on the board near where you sign up weekly for games in Friendship Hall.  If she doesn’t get enough people interested in playing or in teaching, then the classes won’t be available.

Golden Olympics – Marsha Fabricus will again be coordinating our participation in these events. This is a two month long event that has tons of different categories at various times during the two months for your to participate in.   There is a newspaper flyer available in the Activities Office for anyone wanting to participate or see what all the categories are.  You can be a contest for baking, golfing, walking, biking, any card game you can name, jig saw puzzles, etc. etc.  There are also park participation events where you can Walk and Talk or Bike Ride.  If you register for those and participate, Winter Ranch gets participation points.  The park with the most participants wins those events.  I know we can all walk and talk and a lot of us ride those bikes.  We don’t want our sister park winning again this year, do we???  Let’s get out and participate in the total Rio Grand Valley Event.

Winter Ranch Garage Sale that is open to the public will be held on January 23rd in the Large Hall from 8 to Noon

The swimwear sales lady will be at Winter Ranch on January 23rd from 9 AM to Noon in the Library.

Billiards Cue Raffle – The Billiards Group will again be raffling a $300 cue.  The tickets are 1 for $3 or 5 for $5.  The raffle will be drawn on February 16th at the Pool Tournament.  You do not need to be present to win.

The 50th Wedding Anniversary Celebration is scheduled for February 15th from 2 to 4 PM in the Large Hall.  Lynn will be putting up reservations sheets on the Bulletin Boards by the Mail Room this week.  There are three DIFFERENT sheets. Please be diligent about what sheet you register on.   One sheet is for those that are celebrating their 50th anniversary this year.  One is for those that have been married for over 50 years and the third is for guests.  Please make sure you sign on the right form so that we don’t have a mixup.  We REALLY need to know who is celebrating 50 years so we have things prepared.  Same goes for those married over 50 years The cut off date for signing up is February 9th.

Quilters:  The Winter Ranch Annual Quilt Show sill be on Tuesday, January 27th, 2015.  Watch for registration forms which will be available the week of January 12th.  You may enter quilts of any size from king to miniature, antique quilts, wearables, table runners, purses, tote bags and all other quilted items.  Get your quilted items entered and let’s make this the best show ever.

The Mystery Theater Dinner/Play is “The PolterHeist” this season.   The Dinner Theater will be held February 8th at 5 PM in the Large Hall.  Tickets will go on sale in the Small Hall this Friday at 9 AM.  Tickets are 10 each.  This year their will be a Matinee performance of the play for those that weren’t able to get tickets.  The Matinee version without dinner will be $5 and will be performed on Wednesday, February 11th at 1 PM.  There is no limit on the Matinee.  The dinner tickets are sold out but you can still get tickets to the Matinee.

The Winter Ranch Variety Show “Razzle Dazzle” will be held on February 22nd at 7 PM.  Mark your calendars.  Lee Clement and JoAnn Sullivan are the Coordinators of the event.  They have posted a sign-up sheet to be in the show on the Bulletin Board by the Arts and Crafts Room.  They REALLY need to know as soon as possible who is going to participate.
